How it works

Four steps. No design skills.
One very surprised hero.

If you can send a text, you can make a comic.

  1. Tell us about them.

Their name, their world, the inside jokes only you'd know. The more you share, the more the story sounds like them.

  2. Add their face.

Upload one photo, or do a quick five-angle face scan for an even closer likeness.

  3. Pick their hero look.

Choose the design that suits them.

  4. Get your comic.

We write the story, draw every page, and add the narration. On your first comic, the cover and the first 4 pages are ready in minutes, free to read in the page-turn reader. Love it? A credit pack draws the rest, and you see the price before you pay. Then keep it, share it or get it printed.

The likeness

If an app ever turned someone you love into a stranger, this part's for you.

You've seen the AI slop: almost them, then a stranger by the next page. We keep the same face page after page, from one photo or a five-angle scan for an even closer likeness.

Maybe it was the filter that gave Grandma someone else's smile. Or maybe it was the "personalized" book, where the only thing that was really theirs turned out to be the name on page one. If you've been there, you remember that second, and the little drop in your stomach that came with it.

Here you get two ways in, and the likeness holds on both. One photo is the fast way in. Five photos from different angles give us more to draw from, so the likeness holds from the cover to the last panel. So pick your speed. Both get you them.

And the face is only half of it, because the story gets written from what you tell us about them. So it sounds like them too.

Inside the comic

A story that knows them as well as you do.

You share the details only you'd know. We turn them into a whole comic book of adventure, starring them.

Every comic starts with what you tell us, and the little things matter most: the nickname only the family uses, the snack they'd defend in court, the song they belt in the car (badly), the way the dog steals one shoe and leaves the other. We work those details into a full adventure. So the plot sounds like them. So do the jokes.

Then you turn the pages. Our reader turns like a real comic, page by page. Their face turns up page after page, in a story that sounds like them.

FAQ

Questions? Good. Here are the answers.

Does it really look like them?

Yes. One photo gets you a comic that looks like them, and the five-angle scan gets even closer. With your first comic, you see the cover and the first 4 pages before you pay, so you can see for yourself.

Photo or face scan, which should I use?

One photo is fastest. The scan gets closest.

What happens to my photo?

We use it only to draw your comic and stickers. We never sell it or use it for advertising, and you can delete everything from inside the app. The Privacy Policy has the details.

Will I get charged?

Not for the preview. The cover and the first 4 pages of your first comic are free to read. If you love it, a credit pack draws the rest, and you always see the price before you pay. Printing is up to you, from $24.99.

Free pages carry a customcomicbooks.com watermark until you finish the comic with credits. Then the whole comic, free pages included, comes back without it.

What's the Pass?

An optional extra. The Custom Comic Books Pass is $2.99 a week, renews automatically every week until you cancel, and removes the watermark from every comic you make (credits are separate).

On iPhone, cancel any time in Settings → your name → Subscriptions. On the web, cancel online any time at Manage your Pass by signing in with the email you paid with. The Pass stays on until the end of the time you already paid for.

How long does it take?

A few minutes to the cover and the first pages, and a few more for the rest once you finish it.

When will the print arrive?

Every book is printed to order. Most leave the printer 6 to 10 days after you order, then travel by mail, which adds more days. We can't promise a delivery date, so if you have a birthday or holiday to hit, order a few weeks early.

Do I need an iPhone?

No. It runs in any web browser, so there's nothing to install. There's also a free app for iPhone and iPad.

I'm not techy. Can I do this?

If you can send a text, you can make a comic. The app walks you through it one question at a time.

Can I put more than one person in a comic?

Yes. A comic can star up to four heroes, people or pets.

A few minutes from now, someone you love could be a superhero.

That's how long it takes to write a whole story around them and draw the first pages, starring them. On your first comic you read those pages free, and finish it when you love it.
